I have been collecting for Four years, how am i doing?

It was after my freshman year in college that I began collecting coins seriously. I had always love to see my father's collection but never had one of my own. Exactly four years has passed since I started my own collection and a lot has changed.

I have since graduated from Bentley University and I have a job as a financial analyst. I have expanded by collection extensively to include a near full type set from 1799 to present. I have begun collecting $2.5 Indian head gold pieces. I have started the site http://rarecoinsunlimited.com and joined this collector's society.

Some things still have not changed since that first day. I am still a sucker for a nice white mercury dime, I still love looking at my father's collection and I still have more coins that I want for my growing collection.

It is the hunt to find treasure that keeps me going. It is a very relaxing for me to sit down and view my own collection or for me to go to a shop and search for the perfect coin to add to my collection.

Still even after all the books I read, all the conversations I have had, and all the coins I have seen and enjoyed seeing. I still feel like I need more.

My best advice for anyone just starting is to realize this hobby is all about what you put in. I have finally learned it is not about the most expensive coin in your collection or the rarest coin in your collection it is about the time you spend sharing knowledge and what you have to give back to the collecting community.

After all you never really own a coin you just keep it safe for the next generation.
