A couple of new coins for my personal collection....Last weeks Heritage auction...some of the "big boy" coins crossed at "little boy" prices? sign of the times or....
I just wanted to share with the society a couple of my new purchases, something a bit left field for me as i usually stick with high grade Charlotte & other branch mint gold. But before that i just wanted to know if anyone else saw crazy low prices at the Heritage auction, i must admit i dont look at every different denomination but the few that i do i noticed something strange....even more then previous prices of the "big boy" coins as i like to put it were crazy low, for example i picked up a new orleans gold quarter eagle for 5k, its previous auction crosses were both well over 10k(11 & 14) its price guide was 18k but i picked it up for an amazing $4887....is this a sign of this poor economy or did i just manage to pick up an overlooked coin? could there really be an overlooked coin at a heritage auction? Who knows if this is the end of the high prices for these gold coins and we will start to see more realistic prices....but for a coin to sell for less then half it did a year ago? thats a big drop(btw the coin was a lovely example with original skin...high eye appeal, so it wasnt just a dipped example that sold cheap)
Other then that example i also picked up a coin i usually wouldnt target and of course it was one of my last second impulse buys while watching heritage live(i really gotta stop doing that!) i do however think it was a great last second choice and although i know nothing about the series or the coin itself i still do love her! and i know there are many people that would cringe at spending that kind of money on a last second whim but i am a little crazy and the moment i seen the picture of the coin i fell in love...not to mention its from one of my favored mints the carson city mint.
Anyway it was another "deal" i believe with the coin crossing for exactly 50% less then it did a year ago, a 10k savings over the same purchase in 2008 is pretty good i believe....the coins itself is a colorful 1875cc twenty cent piece NGC MS65, just a beautiful coin and with a world class pedigree t5o match(EX- Wayte Raywond 1947...yes the coin albulms!-John Jay Pittman 1997 -Joseph Thomas 2009 -ME!)....so either its a sign of the times and "big boy" coins are starting to plummit or its just been a few good buying opportunity's...any opinions? anyone noticing the same thing with different series etc?
