Remorse... or is it?

Some thoughts on a recent purchase

You may recall my recent purchase of a Connecticut colonial copper. I have some thoughts I'd like to share, that have been spurred on by the latest edition of EAC's Penny-Wise. There was an article in there entitled "I can't believe I actually bought that!" - a fitting title for a couple of purchases I've made in the past few years. However, it got me thinking about my latest copper purchase.

Do I regret purchasing the coin? No. Definitely no. I can now say I have a Connecticut copper. I also am sure I will not buy another VG Connecticut copper. I stated in an earlier post that I purchased the coin with no illusions of something grand. After all, it's a net VG coin, not AU or MS. Unfortunately, I'm not impressed enough with to get excited about the coin. Most of the features that are visible are only visible if you hold the coin at an angle to the light.

This is so different from Draped Bust large cents, where a VG coin, even a G coin and some AG coins are very nice (in my opinion anyway). When I purchase another Connecticut copper, I think I will have to "splurge" and get one that is VF or EF grade, so that I can see enough of the coin to enjoy it. Don't get me wrong, however. I don't regret my purchase. I don't mumble to myself "I can't believe I bought that..." over and over. After all, these coins were not minted under the best possible conditions.

Therefore, I have no buyer's remorse. I don't feel cheated, even, just maybe a little teeny bit disappointed but much more knowledgable. The dealer, by the way, is awesome and I plan to purchase again from him as some new stock comes in or my budget changes. That will be interesting as I am facing first a pay cut this fall and a pay raise at the same time for taking on a new position - net result is probably a smaller pay cut. The coin budget is still intact however, even with this and medical bills beginning to come in from my shoulder injury.
