Not a huge fan but wanted the "new design"

Greetings Collectors,

Wanted to say first off that it is good to see "Bully" is back. Have missed his very informative and colorful journals. On the new Lincoln cent reverse design while not a big fan of the cent since the last change I have made a habit of trying to obtain any and all new issues that can be had for "face value" at my local bank. The girls always let me know the day the new quarters, dollars, nickles and such come out and I always get two rolls.

Now with all the hype over the new cents, I wanted those as well. I know they were getting tired of me asking every time I walked in the door as the new cents and the new "Sac" reverse were the only ones of late that were not in my possession. I have talked to the mint numerous times this year, getting the right info only about half the time. But when I called on Friday the 13th to inquire on the possible ship date on the Lincoln Silver Dollars I ordered several weeks ago and as always I ask about any gold products that may be available due to returns and the like. I would also ask what new products were available. It was at this time I was told that the new reverse Sac's in the direct ship program were sold out, but due to "Overwhelming demand" they had decided to sell the lincoln cents in two roll sets (P&D) When I heard this I promptly ordered "two" of the two roll sets and total cost with S&H was $22.85 for the four rolls. Please forgive me if this is old news to you all but I don't remember seeing anything in the journals about this. I then received my "Coin World" mag on Sat.14th and this news was highlighted on the front page.

I do not want to "slight" those of you that are Lincoln cent collectors as I know alot of you are and I have seen some great looking sets. I actually started collecting coins because of the Lincoln "wheaties" along with the Indian head cents and Buffalo nickles. I do think it odd that of those three, I have very few in my collections today. In fact none slabbed with the exception of a few Lincolns.

I do think that looking back, most every new issue is saved more so than others, so the thought of the new cents ever being "rare" are remote. The Lincoln Cent along with the Morgan Dollar and the Buffalo Nickle are maybe the most collected coins of all and due to this fact, I think the demand will always be there. At least the mint will put a "damper on the high prices I have heard of at the "Bay" and such.

I will say in closing that I have a very strong feeling that the Lincoln Silver Dollar WILL sell out and if you do like Commemoratives or Lincoln I would get one of the Proofs or one of the Unc's and I would definately get one of the "Limited issue" of 50,000 sets with the dollar and all 4 proof cents. I think the demand will be high and if things don't change much from where they are the Uncirculated dollar is the "rarer" of the two.

I do love coins and coin collecting, but it's an added bonus if what we love to collect goes way up in value. Of course this is coming from someone who owns several dozen Washington and Statue of Liberty half dollar coins that I "just knew" that being such popular "themes" would be great investments. This is a great example of only collecting what you like and enjoy and forget about the "investing aspect". Have Fun with your Coins and Happy Collecting! WKF
