The 2009 Native American Dollar

Check out your local bank!

In the general course of my usual week I'll stop by my local bank (Bank of America) and purchase about $10 in dollar coins. They work better in the vending machines at work than paper money, they don't crease, tear or generally get stuck in the changer!!! It's usually fun to see which of the small size dollars show up. I see about 25% Anthony's, 40% Sac's and the remainder are Presidential's. I, of course, look through them for the known varieties and usually find nothing, but it's still a fun 10 minutes a week practicing the hobby and it's a way to circulate the dollar coins. The teller's love me for unloading them form their till...

This week the teller I walked up to didn't have any dollar coins in the till, but she said they just got some rolls and she would be happy to get me $10 worth. Imagine my surprise when she came back with the roll and I saw Native American Dollar stamped on the outside!

I quickly pulled out $25 and said give me the roll! Please!

I don't particularly like any of the small dollar coins, but faced with the chance of looking through an OBW roll, I thought it might be interesting. The end coins are fingerprinted, but they look very good overall. Who know's maybe I'll send one of these in on my next submission.

The morale of the story, don't pay big bucks for the moderns when you can get them at your bank. Don't give up because they appear at the most unexpected times. I've seen the major coin dealers advertising this same roll in Coin World for $42.95 + postage - a complete rip off for sure!!!

Wish me luck finding a 67 or 68 in this roll worthy of submission!
