The maddness of selling coins!

I can sell coins at a lower price than you can.

I have been selling and buying U.S. NGC Graded Silver Eagles on E-Bay for some time. I am always surprise at with final bids on some coins. Let?s take look at the 2009 Silver Eagle Mint State coins. At the time of this posting silver spot is at 13.50 an oz. Prices for a green monster box is $8825.00, and don?t forget about the shipping charge of $55.00 making the total purchase of around $8880.00. Now the cost per coins is at $17.76. If you send the coin to NGC for grading that will cost 15.00 bucks minus the 10%, and don?t forget to add the cost of shipping to and from NGC. That brings the numbers for grading and shipping to around 14.48 per coin. So let?s recap. 2009 MS silver eagle coin cost 17.76, grading cost of 14.48 for a total of $32.24.

Now you have your 2009 Silver Eagle Early Released NGC graded MS69 in hand and you wish to sell the coin to other coin collectors on E-Bay. Let?s take a look at that cost. E-Bay will charge a listing fee of .15, and the Final Value fee of 1.44 and a pay pal fee of a $1.88. And don?t forget your shipping and postage. That will run 1.75 with packaging. Your total for fees and postage is $5.22.

Now, the final numbers are in $32.24 and $5.22 for a total of $37.46. The true cost of the 2009 NGC graded Silver Eagle is 37.46

Now I dare anyone to find a 2009 NGC MS 69 graded Silver Eagle that has sold for that price on E-Bay. Most are selling for anywhere from 26-29 dollars. This averages a loss to the seller of around $11.46 to $8.46. What is funny here is you have thousand of seller and coins that are sold for a loss every day on E-Bay. I have never walked into a coin shop and the owner states here is a nice 1882 Morgan Dollar MS67 gray sheet price ask of $18,500, and would be willing to take a loss on the coins and sell it to me for $13,250. Yet ever day on E-Bay coin seller are oh to willing to part with coins and take a loss. Now the other side of the coin is, if you are a buyer there is no place like E-Bay to score big savings on graded coin. Just buy 2009 NGC graded Silver Eagles at a discount. Can anyone explain the logic to this madness?
