The Lincoln Cent Part III - The Wide AM gets no respect!!!

Well I can't seem to stray to far from talking about Lincoln Cents. I was outbid this weekend on an MS 67 RD 1934. It seems that there are fewer of these 67's to go around these days or the seller wants way above Numismedia...

The subject at hand is the Wide AM cents from 1998, 1999 and 2000. It would seem that these varieties are just as popular as any of the Doubled Die varieties of the past 50 years. The 2000 trades frequently on Ebay due to the certified population being in excess of 600 coins.

My arguement is that these are well known by collectors and I'd venture to say that most all serious Lincoln Cent collectors have at least one of these either raw or slabbed. The 1998 and 1999 certified populations in RD are 201 & 48, respectively. This low pop makes them very desireable. I absolutely get sick of the 1995 DDO, as there are thousands of these floating around and I see them up for sale on every venue in multiples.

I think that these coins should get the respect they deserve by updating the Lincoln Cent collections with separate line items for all three coins in the registry. These are key coins to the Lincoln Memorial Collection, which by the way is now complete. The 3rd generation Lincoln Cents are in production. Anyone else agree or disagree?

Good luck in all your acquisitions!

Todd
