Weighing In On PCGS Being On The NGC Registry

The more that I grow in the hobby the more it matures me.

Over the past couple of years this subject pops up every now and then. Each time I read some articles, I sense anger, frustration, loyalty, pride, and the list of emotions goes on. I understand all of these, as I feel them more and less at times. I do, though, fall into the catigory of using PCGS to my advantage. I have a few, about 20% of my coins registered, by PCGS. They are usually the rare, top graded coins that I can't aquire in NGC. Yes, I would prefer NGC, but I have to look at the competitiveness of my personality and my collection. Yes, also a bit of a sell out, but my competition also uses, and at times solely, PCGS. Mostly the latter. So, I try to even my playing field. Now, I must not forget that PCGS does have some nice graded product, but my competitors seem to find ALL PCGS's good stuff. My advantage with mostly having NGC must be a bit frustrating to the PCGS competitors. I have the added scores with Cameo, and ultra cameo scores, while PCGS does not have those labels, within my top scoring sets. They do with modern mint proofs etc, but I have not seen any in the early canadian pl graded coins. I don't know how that works with U.S. coins. My greatest advantage has been getting those extra points. Another good thing about having PCGS coins on NGC is the fact that those PCGS collectors get to see how nice our community is, from the benifet of them using our registry, to all of the good stuff we can do here as compared to the pcgs site. NGC has nothing to fear, we have the better site. What does PCGS have to fear, why don't they intern open their site up to us? That might be the number 1 question. Back to my opinion. Personally I have found no other grader to be as conservative as NGC, now this fact is to my registry detriment. Maybe I just have, overall bad luck with my submissions, I do get quite a few good ones, but I also submit alot, especially when I am committed with one of my sets to try for number 1. So far this year I havent picked what I am going to work on for the year. Probably, Canadain PL pennies or nickles. I always, though ,am keeping one eye open for improving on one of my #1 sets, just to make sure that I stay on top if possible. So to sum things up, there is a two tier standard against PCGS slabs, at least with my collections. Those PCGS collectors might want to lobby PCGS to change a bit on their labeling if they want to compete with me.
