As the old year ends, hope for the best of the next year begins.

Well, I am sure that most of you who collect Modern coins have been following the spot prices daily in the money section in your paper, or right here on the NGC site, and I am sure most of you will note that the platinum prices are about ONLY $100 less than that of gold right now.

This (hopefully) will mean lower prices from the Mint to all of us, and IF that holds true, it will mean my first foray into collecting platinum ($5) coins.

The prices have definately taken a huge dive which is great for the collector...horrible for the investor. As many of you know, I have always held that one should never ever use what they collect as any kind of investment as the prices will sometimes fall out, and if you don't love the objects of the collection, you get left with things that aren't worth what you paid for...then the regret and disappointment...and ultimately calls to a counsellor and heavy psychiatric bills come into play.

So, I am looking forward in a huge way to the coming year...the credit cards are getting paid off just in time to rack 'em up again in just a little while with a newly paid membership here, and MORE coins.
