Thoughts on the Economy While Riding the Bus

It's a dirty ol' town....

Greetings!

My day usually starts at 5:45 am when the BEEP BEEP BEEP of the rude alarm clock awakens me to a new day.

I then stagger over to my wifes side of the bed where the clock rests on her night stand while tripping over her shoes and her dog. The first success of the day is shutting that damn thing off. I don't hear very well, and my wife can sleep through a tsunami, so we bought the loudest alarm we could find. I hear it, but she still sleeps through it.

I make my way to the downstairs area of the house where my bathrooom is, where I do the morning duties of getting clean and preparing my mind for the day ahead, which includes sometimes reciting gnostic morning prayers, and reading gnostic meditations. Sometimes I read a page or 2 of any given Dr.Wayne Dyer book that I keep in my book area where I get ready for work.

I get my clothes on which includes required shirt that has the Salt Lake County logo on it, and some pants that have cargo pockets where I keep my wallet ( I hate sitting on it while driving) and the PDA that the County gives us to track our time and job assignments for the day. On my belt I keep a cell phone holder and cell phone, and a flashlight holder and small mag light. By the time all of the clothes are put on and the proper meditations are done, I have a moment to grab my sunglasses and kiss my wife before the 2 block walk to the bus stop.

Even though it is still dark outside, I wear my sunglasses for the walk. They are a light red...say rose color, which still allows me to see, but also allows some protection for my eyes from the sun(when it comes out) and the wind in the mornings. I have very sensitive eyes...tear up at the slightest provocation.

By the time I get to the bus stop after walking through my older, but fairly well-to-do neighborhood, I have about a 5 minute wait for the bus. During this time I get stared at, waved to, and shouted at, and passed by with joggers and people walking their dogs and other people either couples or friends passing by in conversations I never can make out.

When the bus arrives it takes me into an old area called "Sugar House" where the first attempt to make sugar from sugar beets in Utah was successful. There is no sugar here now, though. Instaed there is a mix of old and new. There is a strip mall (imagine that) right across the street from some very old shops that have been there for 50 or more years. One of the shops is a coin shop where I went to my very first coin shopping experience live, and not online. There is heavy traffic and all sorts of people from all different walks of life. Sometimes the smell of wino meshes with some Chanel...making a intersting smell, as they give each other interesting looks.

So, why am I on the bus anyway? Well, I used to have a work van that my employers gave me to do my job in the private sector. When I started with the government, they no longer allowed employees to drive the vehicles home. I also took a cut in pay so that my household can only afford my wifes car (paid for except gas, etc.) I can't help but wonder some mornings if I made the right decision...especially when the bus is full and my disdain for people arises.

Somedays I can barely afford groceries after paying the bills, and then there is the fact I have to bring the kids on the bus for their visitation. I don't like subjecting them to the wino/chanel smells.

But, I was thinking today on my way home that the economy will hopefully change for the better, and I will have that Prius I always wanted, and I will finish the SAE set and SAE Proof set, and I will re-new the Collectors Society membership, and life will be happy like it was when I first started this collection of silver just last year.

I believe it is always good to have hope.

Have a great night everyone!
