Buying Coins on eBay

You can't apply blanket statements like that to all eBay sellers.

I have never sold a coin on eBay, but I have bought a lot. In fact > 95% of the coins in my registry sets were purchased on eBay. I usually don't buy raw coins on eBay, unless it is from a seller I trust. I do buy NGC/PCGS slabbed coins all the time. I have close to 50 eBay saved searches that are emailed to me everyday, and I go through them every night. My eBay watch list is usually around 150 items, and a lot of the time I get really great deals. I have had an overwhelmingly positive experience buying from the eBay sellers that I do - most of them are very honest. The few times that I have had problems, the sellers have stepped up and made it right (usually incurring extra expenses in the process). Is it possible that one of my coins are in a counterfiet slab? I suppose it is possible, though very very unlikely as I always inspect both the coin and slab thoroughly.

It is silly to suggest that all reputable sellers should make their own website and not sell on eBay. It is a simple question of economics. There is far less overhead selling on eBay rather than handling your own e-commerce website (well maybe not once eBay gets done changing its pricing structure). Plus an eBay auction will get far more traffic than an individual site (search engine optimization can get expensive too).

So I will continue to buy coins on eBay, regardless of what anyone says - and I hope the reputable sellers continue to sell for as long as they want.
