Peace Of Mind
I have found my new path but it is in an old direction.
As most young collectors I started out collecting circulated coins. I always managed to have a paper route, so there was no shortage of change to go thru. Pennies, nickels, and dimes were the coins that I collected. Quarters and halves were way to much money to be collecting and silver dollars were birthday gifts from grandparents. The silver dollars that I got were Peace dollars. At that time I had no idea that the coins that I was collecting had replaced older coins and the ones that I was seeing every day were eventually going to be replaced by more modern ones. I got older and learned more and started collecting Morgan dollars more or less because it was the coin that everybody was collecting. I amassed what I thought was a pretty nice set about 65% complete, I learned more and was going to start getting them graded and found out how little I really did know my UNC coins were AU, my AU coins were XF I got very disillusioned with my Morgan dollars and sold most of the for what ever I could get. The chances of me being able to complete a set of Morgans was zero, ditto for the other earlier dollars. The Eisenhower was not a real silver dollar except for the blue envelope and brown box Ikes. Which left the Peace dollar and brought back old memories. I researched and found that if a could except the fact that some of my Peace dollar set would be circulated coins that I could put together A pretty good NGC certified set In about a years time which is exactly what I did. That is pretty much how the Peace dollar became my favorite coin. I have been kind of lost since I finished it. I have worked on my ASE's, the presidential dollars both MS and proof even with the Peace dollar up grades something is missing until the other day when I was reading the journals and the discussion turned to short sets. I had found the answer I can now work on another classic set like Mercury dimes or Walking Liberty halves maybe Buffalo Nickels. Right now I think it will be Lady Liberty with the winged Hat.I have no coins and am in 98th place.
