INCONSISTANCY IS A PROBLEM EVERYWHERE BUT SAME STANDARD IS KEY.

ANYONE WHO HAS SUBMITTED COINS FOR GRADING ANY NUMBER OF TIMES WILL HAVE A STORY OF COINS CROSSING AND NOT CROSSING. I'VE HAD ABOUT 50% SUCCESS CROSSING FROM ICG TO NGC BUT THAT WAS AFTER PERSONALLY FILTERING WHAT I WAS GOING TO SUBMIT AND WHAT WOULD BE A WASTE OF MONEY DOING SO. I'VE EVEN HAD ONE CASE OF AN ICG COIN CROSSING HIGHER AT NGC THAN ITS GRADE IN THE ICG HOLDER IT WAS SUBMITTED IN. IT IS THE COIN THAT IS BEING SUBMITTED NOT THE HOLDER. IT SHOULDN'T MATTER WHAT HOLDER IT IS IN OR WHO IT IS SUBMITTED TO WHAT GRADE IT IS ASSUMING YOU ARE FAMILIAR WITH THE STANDARD. THE STANDARD HAS TO BE YOURS DEVELOPED BY EXPERIENCE WITH THE GRADING COMPANIES THAT YOU TRUST.

I'VE SAID ALL THAT TO SAY THIS. THERE ARE PROBLEMS AT PCGS, NGC, AND ICG WITH GRADING CONSISTANCY. INDICATIONS OF INCONSISTANCIES IN THE GRADING ARE AS INCONSISTANT AS THE GRADING. TO SAY THAT ICG IS WORSE THAN PCGS OR NGC IS ONLY AS TRUE AS IT IS NOT.

OVER AND OVER, I HAVE TRIED TO GAIN LEVERAGE TO HELP ME BUILD MY SETS BY TRING TO CROSS FROM ICG TO NGC, NGC TO PCGS, UPGRADE PCGS 66's TO NGC 67's, IN HOLDER AND RAW SUBMISSIONS, AND WHAT I'VE LEARNED AT SIGNIFICANT EXPENSE AND FRUSTRATION IS THIS:

(1) A COIN IN A ICG HOLDER IS NOT CONSISTANTLY BETTER OR WORSE THAN A COIN IN A PCGS OR NGC HOLDER. THEY ARE LESS CONSISTANT OR USE A DIFFERENT STANDARD AT THE ULTRA GRADES, ARE LESS EXPENSIVE AND NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THE PCGS OR NGC REGISTRY. SO YOU HAVE TO GRADE IT YOURSELF, COMPARE IT TO THE STATED GRADE AND STANDARD OF THE REGISTRY AND SUBMIT IT FOR CROSS IF YOU WANT TO USE IT TO COMPETE IN THE REGISTRY.

(2) A COIN IN A ICG, NGC, OR PCGS HOLDER IS WHAT IT IS AS FAR AS MY GRADEING STANDARD REGARDLESS OF THE STATED GRADE. ALL THREE HAVE THEIR INCONSISTANCIES. YOU CAN TRUST PCGS MOST OF THE TIME BUT THE COIN IN THE HOLDER TELLS THE TALE. YOU WILL FIND MORE 67 COINS IN 66 HOLDERS IN PCGS THAN NGC BUT YOU'LL FIND 66's IN 67 HOLDERS TOO. ICG IS LESS CONSISTANT AT THE ULTRA GRADES THAN NGC OR PCGS.

(3) AN MS67 IN A PCGS HOLDER IS NO BETTER THAN A MS67 IN AN NGC HOLDER. IT WILL COST YOU MORE TO BUY IT AND BRING YOU MORE IF YOU SELL IT BUT WILL HAVE NO INTRINSIC EFFECT AS LONG AS YOU OWN IT. THE SAME HOLDS TRUE FOR ICG OR RAW. COLLECTORS COLLECT COINS AND DEALERS DEAL HOLDERS!

(4) ULTRA GRADES ARE THE MOST INCONSISTANT REGARDLESS OF THE GRADEING COMPANY.

IN MY OPINION, PCGS SHOULD HAVE ITS REGISTRY. NGC SHOULD HAVE ITS REGISTRY. ICG SHOULD HAVE ITS REGISTRY AND SO ON. PCGS SHOULD ALLOW NGC, ICG, ETC. FOR DISPLAY PURPOSE ONLY. TO COMPETE PCGS COINS ONLY ARE CALCULATED. NGC THE SAME. DISPLAY WHAT YOU WANT BUT COMPETE WITH NGC ONLY IN THE MGC REGISTRY. ICG , ANACS, WHOEVER THE SAME. THEN THE STANDARD IS THE SAME AND THE INCONSISTANCIES THE SAME.
