A Retrospect of the last Few Months
It has been a rollercoaster ride....
Greetings again everyone!!
It is a sunny bright day in the 90's here in SLC as I sit in a very comfortable air conditioned space inside...which has made me do a little retrospective thinking about the past few months, and a little bit into last year. AND a bit of future news for my plans for my journal here.
I think the 2 most newsworthy events that has happened to us all as coin collectors are obviously, the "Reverse of 2007" and the stunning $20 an ounce and $1000 an ounce gold prices we had for about a week.
You know, I have this sneaking suspicion that the price for the "Reverse of" is going to drop wayyyyyyy down as it is slowly discovered that the Mint made LOADS of these things. I am not saying this is not a rare coin...BUT I think the market is going to cool off as it did with the 2006 W Burnished SAE and we will see a drop. I am gambling on that outcome, anyway, as I really don't wish to pay over $300 for that coin....hopefully I can pay about $150...but I may be wrong and we shall see as the future unwinds.
The silver prices hit a "scary" $20 an ounce a few months ago, and I think there was a collective " OH NO!!" and " YESSSSS!!" cry by us collectors as our current values did increase, but our future coin buying power seemed to be in jeopardy as the prices creeped up. BUT that only lasted a few days and new the silver per ounce is around $17 again. I'd be a liar if I said I felt the economy is strong and we have no more worries....I think we are in heap big trouble and we may see silver market prices hit $30-40 an ounce. So, I am breathing while I can, as I am also setting my sites on other collectibles I love to kind of even out my interests and thus keep my hobbies interesting. Which, brings me copious amounts of happiness.
So, here it is almost July, and I still feel the excitement for the Collectors Society that I felt when I joined last year. I can feel the chill of October and the newness of my numismania just like it happened yesterday. I can feel the excitement of Thanksgiving (my favorite holiday) and the sneaking to the computer the day before to check on the Journals here, and the semi-drunken entry or 2 I made while celebrating a new hobby and a new upcoming year.
I believe this coming holiday season will bring me more joy, and 2009 will bring even more excitement.
Here's looking to the future!!
