The Rise and Fall of the Burnished Silver Eagles

The pricing has changed...

So, after a hard days work today I do my favorite thing which is to check my registry sets and see how my coins stand, and also to read the interesting things you all have to say.

I have been a bit perplexed lately as I watched the pricing for my 2006 W Silver Eagle Burnished move from about $100 to $78.

I always felt like maybe that would happen as there was a bit of a "craze" over the new Burnished coins. I paid $89 for mine in raw form, and it graded a MS 69. At the time I bought my coin, they were selling for about $110. I felt strongly it was worth the $89, as this WAS the first issue of a burnished coin, and I really don't collect for monetary gain anyway, as these things do tend to rise and fall in price.

As I have said here before, only collect what you love. And I truly love having the Silver Eagles. I am sure my 2007 W's will not price very high, but I paid very little for those to start with. The coin with the highest gain in my collection is my 2007 Proof SAE which is a PF 70 UC which I bought from the Mint for $28, Numismedia prices it at $112.

My MS 70 ER Gold $5 coin is also a "winner" as I paid $99, and it shows a price of about $130.

But, as I say, these prices will go up and down and sideways. It is fun to watch the values change, but it would be disappointing if these were solely investments monetarily.

I am glad these are solely investments in my happiness.

Thanks again for reading, I hope these coins bring to you much happiness.
