Is it REALLY Just "Stuff" ?

The things we have and losing it all.....

Greetings!

I sit here with the memory of going through my divorce 7 years ago and having the attitude that I did not need the "stuff" I acquired over the time of the marriage anyway.

I felt I did not need the comic book collection, the baseball cards ( the good autographed ones were sold previous to this...a long story) the "things" that I treasured, I figured I would "just re-build later".

It turns out I was sorely wrong. I miss the "stuff" I used to have.

Even though I am acquiring these things back again, it is money and time consuming. The thrill of holding in my hands "Batman: Year One Part One" for the first time and reading that story over and over and then contemplating "Year One Part Two" there was no feeling like that...and getting those books for 75 cents, too. WOW. I miss that thrill.

I have since re-acquired the same book, even graded by CGC a 9.6 for $19. But, somehow, this is not the same. The "fire inside" or "God shaped hole" seems to have gotten larger.

I DO however feel the re-kindling of old flames when I recieve the newest coins, however. This hobby is about a year old for me now, and it is a new experience and it does give me peace and comfort and all sorts of amazing feelings.

Bono sings "you glorify the past when the future dries up".

And I tend to agree, so as much as I can acquire "things" from the past. I'll never be able to have the same feelings I had the day I acquired the "things" when they were new.

So, I must acquire new "things" and bask in the glow of the victory of the auction, or the mailing of the newest coins I ordered from the mint.

Because isn't TODAY...REALLLLLLLLY what it's all about?

Have a great Memorial Day, as you remember most importantly the people who have left us behind, and wayyyyy distantly the "things" we wish we still had.

Thanks for reading!
