Body-Bagged dime from inside a 1954 Proof Set

I have received numerous comments on this situation asking for more info, so here it is...

I picked up my 1954 Proof Set at the Post Office this morning. For those who may be new to this, I submitted this set back in March, still enclosed in the Mint Cellophane, which was still intact after 54 years (Scary thought about landfills full of that kind of stuff)

Anyway, when I got my grades earler this week, I discovered that the dime had been body-bagged, with the heading OBV DAMAGE. I was quite surprised to have seen that, since I inspected the coins before submitting them, as many an eBay Seller can attest to when I've returned unsatisfactory Proof Sets to them.

Naturally, when I opened the package from NGC, I immediately extracted the dime to examine it, and lo and behold, there is a slight nick that appears to have been made by a sharp object on the rim at about 2:00. I don't remember that being there, but it could have been.

I think that I have come away with a valuable lesson here that you might want to take to heart as well. I am going to photograph everything before I send it for submission so that if something unusual like this happens again, then I'll have something to research against. I'm not saying that NGC is responsible; not at all. They are a fine bunch of people, and I have nothing but positives to say for them as an organization and as individuals.

It's just that I'm baffled as to how it might've gotten past me, and frustrated that I had nothing with which to compare. Next time, I will be better prepared, and hopefully will catch something in a photograph before I pay for a Grader to catch it.
