A Passion Reality Check

Also, A definition on what a "Skinny Chicken" is, and the origin of the description.

Good day!!

Well, just like many of you I have been consumed lately on getting my set ( in my case the Silver Eagle set ) completed, and with silver prices on the rise, I felt a sense of urgency as I believe the pricing on the rarer Eagles ( 94, 95, 96, 06W) would be out of my reach. And I acquired the rarer coins within my budget, and actually got great deals, as I have posted here previously. In that same time frame along with my buying frenzy, and knowing I had limited funds left on the credit card I use for coins ( has a small 200 dollar limit ) the Mint issued me an email about my subscription for the 08 uncircs would be processed in 2 weeks.

So, I thought I had time to send in a payment to the credit card before "2 weeks" hit, I waited a few days...and then got an email stating I had "insufficient funds" for the 08 on that credit card. This was just 3 days after the "heads up" email.

But, I got that squared away, used my other credit card with a much higher limit. But, I had to have a reality check in regards to letting this passion over take my common sense and keeping a better budget. It is easy to get consumed with the goal of getting the best coins, and forget about where the cards stand and what you can afford at certain moments. Changing jobs has been a bit of a blow to my budget, even though I make more an hour now, my hours are lower than before due to time of year.

Anyway, that's just a reality check for me, keep the passion strong, but keep the budget awareness strong, too. Very important. BUT so hard to do sometimes!! :)

About the term "Skinny Chicken".....

Now, I am NOT an arrogant person, nor do I ever feel like I can "own" words or terms or phrases, and I am glad to see "Skinny Chicken" used as I believe I am the one who "coined" the phrase... (pun intended) But, I used the term to describe the original seal artwork on the back of the silver proofs and uncircs, it was not originally used to descibe the eaglets.

BUT you don't need my permission to use the term as you want to, just thought I'd clarify where the term came from and why. When I first got my eagle commems, the only thing I did not really like was the "skinny chicken" on the reverse of the dollar silver proofs and uncircs, and I have nick-named my dollars "Skinny Chickens"

Anyway, enough of my rambling!! Thanks for reading and have a great day!!
