Awaiting my "Skinny Chicken"

My Bald Eagle Coin..STILL on the way!! :)

When I first started collecting baseball cards, I was about 14 years old, and had the urge to have quantity over quality. I felt that IF I collected enough, SOME "valuable" cards would certainly be in the stack.

But a very good friend of mine intervened, and told me something that has always been my mantra in collecting to this very day.

He said "NEVER collect ANYTHING you don't personally LOVE."

This rule has worked well for me over the years, and still persists in my methodology in coin collecting, or my "numismania" as I like to call it.

This is why I did not bother with the Jamestown commems, nor the Little Rock commems. Yes, they were both excellent coins, and the history very important to any American today....but I did not like the design..I did not "feel it".

As you all have been frequently reminded, I DO love the Silver Eagles very much....everything about them strikes my fancy, and I look forward to getting my new coins every year. My numismania has also now expanded into the presidential proofs and 1st day covers, along with Peace Dollars, etc.

But the Silver Eagles will always be the main focus of my affection in coins.

Having covered that, I was thrilled when the mint sent me a letter offering the Bald Eagle commem coin. I LOVED the design of the proof and uncirculated. I personally did not care for the half dollar..I think baby birds are kinda...gross..just my opinion.

The reverse "original seal" does resmble to me..a "skinny chicken" and that will probably be how I refer to the bald eagle coins ..as my "skinny chickens"

I do love them, most likey will be the only commems I ever get. The obverse with the majestic eagle flying with full wing spread is just incredible.

They are still on the way.

Was that the MAIL I just heard?

Have a great weekend!!

P.S. My VDB Penny arrived yesterday...I am thrilled to have that, and can't wait to send it off for grading by the end of the year.
