Scouring my cedar chest hoard with a magnifying glass...
Greetings!! (again...I Know!!)
Well, I woke up today with a small case of boredom and decided to look closer at my cedar chest coin hoard that I recently discovered..with a magnifying glass.
I THINK maybe the 1928 Peace Dollar may indeed be a 1923...it's hard to tell because the 3 and 8 on that mintage is so similar, but I am going to ship this off to NGC anyway, as it still could be a 2,000 dollar coin. In my unprofessional opinion, it should still grade pretty high as it GLEAMS in comparison to the MS 63 peace dollar I recently bought...but yeah, it'll prolly come back in a body bag
Armed with my latest copy of Coin age magazine, I also scoured my wheat pennies looking for maybe a double die, or anything unusual...and I DID find something, definately an error.
It's a 1965 Lincoln penny and the very edge looks like 2 edges on about the 1 o'clock side. No other way to really describe it than a partial "double rim" and the penny seems to be deeper into the planchet on the obverse in comparison to other pennies.
Could be something very special..or not.
There is no mint mark on this coin, so I don't know the place as to where it came from and can't find any other coins like this on my very limited research for now, so I will most likely send this to NGC as well and let them decide..it's a $30 gamble, may pay off monetarily, and definately WILL pay off as to having a RARE thing...hopefully.
Also, one of my steel pennies looks really astounding..no spots and a very slight hazing.
So, I have had a fun day today going through the coins again...slightly disappointed at the Peace Dollar, but very glad to have it and looking forward to putting it in my registry, as I am looking forward to finding out about the penny.
Hope you all have been having a great day as well, thanks for reading!!
