Yes, I really need CAC certification
Try to sell your certified coins, "sight unseen" or for that matter in the "clear light of day!"
There are new collectors who probably don't remember the "Good Old Days" of the hobby before the advent of "third party" grading. Back then the party of the first part, (you) the consumer, eager to purchase coins for your collection or to sell some, would approach the party of the second part, coin shop owners and coin dealers, to buy or to sell "raw coins." When selling the party of the second part usually insisted that the coin was at least one grade higher than it was. When buying the opposite was true, the raw coin was evaluated a grade point or two lower than it was. Vistages of these practices exist even today. For example, take almost any advertisement featuring raw BU coins (not modern) for sale found in Coinage, Coin Values, Coins and Coin World or any other popular numismatic publications. The small print will advise you that "Grading is subjective" or "based on our interpretation of industry standards" or better yet "our twenty years worth of experience." Order some coins. Immediatedly send the obvious losers back to the seller before the return privilege expires. Submit the keepers to the grading service of your choice. If the coins are not returned in "body bags" as non-grades, almost none of these "so-called Choice or Gem Brilliant Uncirculated" coins will meet the MS-60 level of preservation. Then try to get your money back!
Secondly, send some of your certified coins to the advertisers who are "always buying" and "offering some of the best prices in the industry" for your coins. Find one of them who will buy your certified coins "sight unseen!" You get the idea of why "third Party" grading was needed in the first place.
Put another way, if one has a benevolent autocratic form of government, what's the need for a legislative or judicial
branch of that one same government. Furthermore, since PCGS was already in existence as a "third party" grading service why was NGC or ICG necessary.
I need CAC for the all the reasons stated above. Unlike in the "Good Old Days," I especially want to be able to sell my certified coins on the same "sight unseen" basis that they are usually purchased on and at the same stated price levels. For those who have other ideas, "viva la differance." But we don't have to knock something simply because we don't like it.
