Do We Really Need CAC Certification?

What is the point...

The lastest thing in coin grading is CAC. They are an independent body that judges whether coins graded by third party grading companies are premium quality.

Why do we need a "grading service" to judge whether a third party grading service graded a premium coin or to judge if they graded the coin correctly. I think we as coin collectors should make the distinction for ourselves to judge what is premuim quality. Besides NGC already helps us as collectors judge what is premium quality for the grade by giving coins star (*) designations, with out charging collectors an additional fee. On the PCGS side they are one of the best, right there with NCG, and a very strict graders and rarely ever grade a coin wrong.

I have read that the CAC certification will allow coin dealers to buy & trade on the sight unseen network based on the CAC sticker. This "certification" is too allow dealers to "trust" in coins that they do not see. Do they not trust in one another? Aren't we suppose to trust these dealers when we make our purchases? Is the CAC sticker designed to make us pay more or allow a dealer to ask for more? Don't the more advanced collectors already have an understanding of premium quality? Therefore, why do they need the extra notation or cost associated with getting the CAC sticker on the holder? Does the "little guy" really care about CAC? Lots of questions, time will provide the answers.

The coin pictured sold at the 2008 Heritage FUN auction for a shocking $51,750, which is nearly twice the published PCGS Price Guide. Did it need a CAC sticker?
