Silver Eagles Once Again...

My Take on pretty silver thing...

I have been away from the site a few days, and it looks like my most favorite coin has been a hot topic in the journals, and I cannot help myself but to chime in here.

When I first saw the silver eagles, I fell totally in love with everything about the coin. From the way it looks, to the feel of it in my hand, you name it, I just love everything about the coin. I have bought a few coins from some auctions, and then eventually I started a subscription from the US Mint to acquire 1 each of a proof and uncirculated every year with the idea of also acquiring some coins from auctions to send in 5 a year for grading.

The 2006 Eagles are I think a real fluke as we see these coins just a year old going for over $100...although their mintage is low, etc. I was lucky to get a raw 2006 W uncirc for $89, sent it in for grading where it came back a MS 69, and a I bought a pre-graded MS 70 2007 W for about $65.

I drift away from my point.

To be frank, I think a lot of us get so wrapped up in competing in our registry that sometimes we forget the real passion and great feeling of just acquiring great coins..just HAVING them, the feeling of hunting down the coin you desire and getting it for a fair price. The joy of telling the story of acquiring the latest treasure. This is just my opinion, but I don't think the primary focus needs to be whether something is "worth" high dollars. I think the primary focus should be what the coins are worth to YOU.

And to ME the coins are worth more than I can possibly convey in words.

To me, the coins give me a feeling of being alive, feeling joy when the latest treasures arrive in the mail.

They give me a reason to join this collectors community and to meet new people, and to express my own joy and passion for the beauty of the coin, and the thrill of collecting.

So, in closing, I just want to say the Eagles will most likely lose "value" when the political climate changes and the US Dollar gets stronger again. But that's OK with me personally.

The coins to me are priceless. Always have been. Always will be.

I am thrilled to have them.

Thanks for reading folks, I hope your upcoming holidays bring you joy.
