I got some advice from a Portrait Photographer friend

She told me to go out and buy a light tent, which I did. I got a small one for about $15 on eBay. I still need to get lamps to use with it, though. They'll be coming next week, probably. From what I understand, lamps with halogen bulbs placed above and on the sides of the tent diffuse the light and eliminate glare issues, with supposedly very good effects. Once I get the rest of the gear, I will post something to let everyone know how it worked out.
