MY ICG Coins

ICG is definetly not a Top Tier grading company.

Well I started on my mission to look at ICG coins, as a great investment and means of crossover grading. I have seen a few of their coins at shows and there the best value coins out there, but it seems that the majority of coins that carry icg don?t end up at shows but instead on eBay or other auction sites. I have decided to give them a chance I purchase a 1992 D Olympic MS70 2 PRUCAM Ellis Island 1986 liberty coins, I purchased a MS69 2001 Eagle, and an 1897 P Constitution. I got all these coins for a modest $250. All of the scans looked fine from the pics provided, but when I got them boy was I shocked. The MS69 eagle looked like someone drank coffee and spilled it before the encapsulated it. The 1986 Ellis Island was scratched on the surface as if it came from a tube of coins and the shook it out and it scratched the surface. The 1987 had a hair in the inside with a black smudges on them, now this is all from a 1st glance look at them. That?s extremely troubling when you have an ANA certified company using standards like that. I contacted ICG and they said they would take the coins back and either replace them or give me the market value difference if they give me a new grade. So I guess the question is what is market value? PCGS price guide or the Numismedia price guide? To make a long story short, I have purchased 6 coins from ICG all with negative results. I would advise to steer away from their coins unless you?re at a show and you can examine it with your naked eyes.
