Walkers on my mind...

If you haven't seen Jackson's recent article on Walkers, you should.

I read a recent posting by Jackson about a Proof Walker in his collection that failed to get a Cameo Designation. Regardless of designation, the coin is truly a beautiful one, and made it a point to tell him so.

But as I looked at his photograph more and more, I came to the realization that the Walker is definitely one of those coins whose design fits in perfectly with the time frame in which it was minted.

I can picture almost every aspect of a Walker as being part of the architecture of the 20s and 30s (Even though Walkers started around 1914, I think, and didn't end until somewhere in the mid 40s).

In my mind, I envision a gleaming new skyscraper, erected by the very same Mohawk Iron Workers who built the Chrysler and Empire State Buildings. The building's name, well who knows what it's called, but it is done in same lettering as on the Reverse of the Walker.

And in the lobby, I can picture portraits of both Lady Liberty and an Eagle, exactly as they appear on the coin.

While there are are certainly other coins that reflect the era of their minting (The moon on the reverse of certain Eisenhowers definitely comes to mind), I just seem to have been awestruck by that Walker picture. And I own a couple myself, but was never "moved to words" by them until now.

Forgive my ramblings, please, and thank you again to you, Jackson, for taking the time to share such a beautiful piece of art and history with us all.
