Final take on slabs

Food for thought

I buy most of my coins on Ebay. This is where I see the price differences between NGC and PCGS graded coins, mostly in the modern commems department. NGC coins are always offered at a huge discount compared to the PCGS coins. It seems like the market is flooded with NGC coins, which can only mean that more coins are graded by NGC. I use the PCGS price guide and the Heratage Auctions to get an idea of values for coins, but only as a guide for what I will bid, and I always by the coin, not the holder. I have Morgans in some of the other holders like ANACS, NTC, NNC and SEGS. I think ANACS graded Morgans get a bad rap, lucky for me. Morgans are my main interest. Even here PCGS has the upper hand, with the price difference between a PCGS and NGC 1881-S MS68 running from $2000 to $5000. The same goes for an 1893-S AU53. I collect coins for two reasons, enjoyment and retirement. They are more fun than stocks, and I can physically hold them in my hand. One day PCGS's elitest position will become a thing of the past and the only thing that will count will be population, and the millions of new collectors will only be interested in the grade not the grading company, at least when it comes to NGC and PCGS slabs.
