Shipping hurts, or jumpstarting a set
Won my largest lot of coins by count yet, all in one year.
I decided that for my year sets, I would focus on my 2004 proof set, partly because I had won a clad pf70 dime early on, and I built up around that. I did have a setback after winning a flawed PF70 silver dime, which instead of sending back to where I got it, I sent it to NGC instead, which set me back about as much or more than I paid for the dime in the first place. My favorite coin so far had been the Sac Dollar coin, but I'm digressing. Today I bid on a handful of coins, expecting most to get over bid (to date, the most I have paid on auction for a coin after adjusted shipping was $28.50 for a PF70uc silver Neb qtr)
I did get out bid on a pf69us silver Iowa, but won the 70 that I had bid on. (I expected that to go the other way) All in all, I added 5 coins to my 2004 proof set, and picked up a second 70 silver dime, which should significantly bring down my average cost on the silver dime, and I do hope to eventually get a little more out of it eventually.
I do hope to see some jump in my rank for 2004proof from 28th to something better. (I estimate that I will be 1 point short of tying for 20th place for that years set, but I still feel like I accomplished something, for not yet paying over $33.62 for a coin. I've bid higher on them, but never won one that came out over that with shipping.)
