Indian Hed Nickel
Digging through my old box of Indian Nickels
Since 2002 I have been using ebay to sell off my bulk coins that I found over the years as a Banker. My primary target has been the Morgan Dollar. I received several lessons over the first few years buying Morgans through ebay and eventually only purchase NGC and PCGS.
Recently I have pulled out an old box of Indian Head Nickels. I found several that were in good condition.
Coin Grade Received (NGC)
Sent in 1913 d type I NGC MS63
1913 s type II NGC AU58
1914 s NGC AU58
1937 d NGC MS63
I was pretty please with those results seeing as the total cost was 0.20 cents plus submission costs. There are about five more coins that may be worth grading to me. Come fall I will probably list the rest on ebay and buy better condition Buffalo?s.
I think I will do a better job researching these coins prior to any investment. I have notice that NGC?s value is far less than PCGS. For example a 1938 d in MS66 lists on the Blue Sheet (site unseen) for $84 dollars graded by PCGS and $45 dollars graded by NGC.
Any ideas why the Indian Head Nickel has such a value difference between the services? The Morgan price difference between the services is much closer.
