Rough Grading Experience

Lessons learned, so not a complete waste of money!

Had my first significant NGC submission yeild it's results today. I sent in 9 Morgans. The results were what I should have expected from reading many journals and forum articles here.

An WGC MS67 (RavalexCoins) 1881-O came out as an NGC AU58. That was my biggest looser. But then I did do this as a personal confirmation about the comments I have read about this EBay vendor.

The other source was TRBCoins on EBay. All their coins took a one or two grade downward hit from their opinion grades. I did end up with one body-bagged for improper cleaning from them.

The remaining coins took mainly a 1 grade hit downward from the sellers opinion of grade except for a 1900-P that came back AU58 from an MS64 opinioned vendor.

So what have I learned? Buy raw coins carefully, especially on EBay. Whatever the seller says should be dropped 2 grades at least. The big lesson is not to ever buy anything WGC graded. They are scam artists!

I am not too upset since I generally didn't loose too much in the deals for these coins and I will be much better at identifying the tru state/grade of a raw coin from now on.

Live and learn....................
