re: Pricing on PF70 Presidential Dollars

Thanks, Augman! Your input is very much appreciated. Looks like you have an amazing collection, too... :-)

First off, I'm curious, and I think that Dominator619 would be too, as to where you were able to find those Census numbers. Dominator's journal entry is what got me to examine the pricing on Presidential Dollars in the first place, because he said in his entry that the Census numbers weren't available. I looked as best as I know how for them myself, and found that I could not locate them either. Hence, I became intensely curious as to what kind of prices Presidential Dollars might be fetching, given that I couldn't get a handle on how many specimens were actually out there.

Secondly, if I am reading the Census numbers in Augman's latest posting correctly, it would appear that PF70 is not all that uncommon at all. And if that is indeed the case, then why on earth would someone (multiple someones, actually) pay $1,100 for something that doesn't seem to appear to be even remotely rare.

That's what has me so confused. We're talking big money here. Not exactly in "impulse buy" range. Ususally buyers with that kind of capital do their homework before putting it out to bid. So, to my mind, there has to be some other dynamic at play here, and I'd love to know just what that is, because I think that extra bit of knowledge might be very useful to me as a collector.

So again, I tip my hat to Augman, and extend my heartfelt gratitude for his time and trouble. And if anybody else has any other information on this subject, then please feel free to pass it along...
