My first submissions have come home

I was so glad to see my babies come back. Whew. Never, ever have I sent any of my collection so far away for so long a period of time.

I have to say I am totally underwhelmed with the results of my first submissions. Only one of the five came back encapsulated. If the grading of coins is this subjective, then my time here will be short indeed. Submitted 1881-S Morgan, 1964 Kennedy, 1941-S Mercury, 1943 Mercury, and a 1886 Half Eagle. Morgan came back "Improperly Cleaned". Have no idea what that means and that is after reading their "No Grade" booklet. The Kennedy came back MS64 and I am very pleased with that. The two Mercury dimes came back as "Scratched". Not happy with that, but I knew those two were a long shot anyway. The Half Eagle came back "Not Genuine". Wow, talk about being thrown for a loop on that one. It was a gift from my father over 20 years when I graduated from college. Well, I have a question on the forum about the cleaning. I am really confused about that one. The Morgan and the Kennedy went through the same cleaning technique simultaneously and the Kennedy got an MS64 while the Morgan was returned not graded. Go figure. As to the Half Eagle, I have a X-ray spectroscopy scheduled for tomorrow. I have the 6th edition of the ANA Grading Standards and the picture of their half eagle on page 319, looks exactly like mine, the date not withstanding. So I am VERY confused about the "Not Genuine" grade. I don't understand if that means it is not gold, or its counterfeit, or a replica. You would think they could provide a few more adjectives for the price.
