Re: Is collecting fun for the rich?

First off let me say I am do not think I fall into the catagory of "rich". At any rate, I beleive that collecting is fun for everyone no matter how much they can spend on coins or have invested in coins. I would imagine when they started collecting they were not "rich". They most likely started collecting because a family memeber introduced them to it when they were yound and had little money to spend on coins. They possibly continued collecting as they became "rich" because they truely love to collect. Even if someone has virtualy unlimited money to spend on coins it does not mean that they can just go out and get whatever they want. It may take someone years even decade to obtain the a single coin they want. Not because they cannot afford it, but simply because several rare coins are held tightly by collectors and selling them is not determined by price they could get. A good example is the 1933 double eagle. Another point to consider is someone who has been collecting 40,50,or 60 years might have several thousand or hundred thousand dollars worth of coins, it does not mean they purchased all there coins at any one specific time. I would image that they have enjoyed seeing their collection grow and the potential value of their collection over time. That is how I see it anyways.
