Why pay more?

In rely to Tomt102516 journal entry, I too watch a lot of online auctions and can?t believe what some people are paying for some of these coins. I also have a few online dealers that I check before bidding and as he does, bid according to the prices I would pay if I were to buy it from the dealer, now after doing that I almost always get out bid. Why pay more? I thought the auctions where a way to save a dollar or two, guess not. Now think about these poor people that buy from these Shopping Networks, were in the hell are they getting those prices, better yet, who are these people that can afford to pay those kind of prices for those coins. The other night I was watching one of those shopping networks, $3000 for a set of 20th Ann. Silver Eagles in 70?s. Come on!! So I have made it my goal to educate as many as I can (your not so serious coin collectors)about coin prices. I guess it goes back to, take a little time and shop around.

On the other hand, I also buy straight from the mint, no middle man mark up, and submit my own coins as well. Sometimes I?m disappointed, I hope for that high grade and don?t get it, but at the end of the day I?m truly happy with the outcome. I like the excitement of waiting for that grade, almost like a kid again waiting for Christmas. I know that sounds corny, but it?s true. I also like grading my coin before submitting and seeing how close I was to the grade that I recieve. Any way I talked off everyone?s ear enough, thanks for reading. The best of luck to everyone!!!
