Certified Coin Auctions

What an eye opening experience.

Last Sunday, I had placed bids on six coins at a very popular on-line auction. I had bided to win these coins, but did not bid more than I could have bought them for at an on-line store I use frequently. There was nothing special about the coins, they were not toned and are considered very common. When the auction ended at 10:00pm that night, I had been outbid on all six of them. I was outbid big time. These coins sold for way more than they should have and I couldn?t believe that I had lost all six of them. I even got angry at myself for not bidding more to insure that I would have won them.

That?s when I realized I was working at this hobby the wrong way. Work is a chore, something that has to be done daily to survive and a hobby is done for enjoyment. There is no enjoyment in overpaying for anything, not even the last coin that is needed to complete a collection.

So now it is time for me to bring the enjoyment back into my coin collecting. I have read several journal entries recently where collectors were actually excited about this hobby. Looking through their raw coins and trying to find that perfect one to send in for certification. The anticipation of wait for their coins to move to the next level of the certification process and finally receiving the post that shows they were successful.

This is the type of enjoyment I am looking for. I have many raw coins that will make excellent addition?s to my collection, so now is the time to send them in. I am looking forward to the same excitement and anticipation that other collectors are experiencing. I know there will be many disappointing times when my coins don?t receive the grade I am looking for, but these disappointments will be the results of my own mistakes? and will make me a stronger collector.

Thank to everyone that has given me advice over the past couple of months. It has helped a lot and I have eight coins at NGC being certified at this time. I hope that I have it right this time.

Here is one of my successes.
