Will a picture help me pick out that perfect coin to send to NGC?
I had received my 20th Anniversary Sets form the mint several months ago. I didn?t expect for them to arrive for another month. I thought that it was another order that I was waiting for from the mint to arrive, so I opened the box. How stupid could I be to expect a shipment form the mint to arrive 3 weeks earlier than their website stated. I?m not here to beat up the mint for early shipments, so I will get on with my story.
I realized at that time I would not get the 20th Anniversary labeling on all three coins, so I chose the finest set to send to NGC. All three coins looked to be perfect 70?s to me. The 2006W uncirculated coin looked great, I could not find a mark on this coin with a 5x loupe and the strike was excellent. About 3 weeks late I received the news from NGC that all the coins were 69?s. How could I have messed up that bad.
When they arrived in the mail, I checked all three coins to see where I had made my mistake, and could not find one. So I decided I could live with NGC?s grading results.
I took my picture of all three coins and enter them into my registry set. I then checked to see how they how they looked. What I saw shocked me. There was a dip in the placket just above the ?M? in AMERICA. I did not see it before or after sending this coin to NGC, but there it was in the picture.
To answer my question, yes, if I had taken the picture prior to sending this coin to NGC, I would have seen this problem and chosen a different set to be certified.
What do you think?
