E-bay , Lessons learned

But fail again and again

I like many other people have inherited coins and have chosen to sell, or become a collector. I am somewhere in between. I have sold early, and now wish I would not have, and kept many items. I also have bought many items, mainly on E-bay and have come to the conclusion that maybe collecting is being killed by E-bay.

Big words I know but I do have examples. I bought three coins in December. I sent four coins in to be graded by NGC, one being from my inherited coins. And I am sure most of you already know the outcome. The three I bought Through e-bay were unable to be graded because they were improperly cleaned. The auction said nothing of the sort.

Of course there are many excuses for the E-bay persons, the fact is this, and know I am way behind of my findings, people are destroying numismatic value by trying to increase a quick sale. My Grandfather Told me never clean a coin, you will loose value. I wish he was still here to teach me more. So on a final note, I bid caution to anyone, like me, who take chances on honest e-bay persons, or finding one. I have learned, but am sure I will still fall in that trap. Well anyhow, cheers to all.
