PCGS is slipping. (Revised)
Is PCGS's grading slipping, or is it just me?
Yesterday my father and I stopped at a local coinshop just to look around and such. We looked at a '34-S Peace dollar that he sent in to ANACS which came back AU-58 Details cleaned. Soon we went on to talk about how ANACS grades cleaned coins when I asked him if ICG was still above NGC. He said yes and went on to say that if PCGS is supposed to be #1 they are slipping. He pulled out of his case an 1891-CC Morgan dollar graded PCGS MS-64 he said that it looked as though it had been through a war. My dad and I agreed with him. It may have been graded MS-64 and the luster may still have been there, but the bag marks were terrible on its cheek. I myself have seen 60's graded just as nice as it and the dealer agreed. If PCGS plans on staying above NGC and ICG percentagewise on the Coin Dealer Newsletter, they' ve got to be more precise on their grading. I'm almost begining to wonder if I could grade more correctly than them. If I had bought that coin and sent it back to NGC I know that it would come back at least 3 grades lower which brings me to my next question..... Is PCGS slipping, or is it just me?
