Are collecting Shillings a worthy enterprise for investment purposes.

I've tried finding some info with modest results on the Shilling,and I can't understand why alot of these coins sell so cheaply.Is there some secret that I'm not aware of in dealing in United Kingdom silver?Any information would be greatly appreciated.
