An Italian coin from about 700 years ago.

This is a somewhat over-due post in that most of what I’m talking about here happened a month or so ago, but…

I’d said in June that Shandy and I went into a coin shop together and she’d looked at an ancient coin from Italy / that part of the world. She was intrigued by it but she wasn’t interested enough to pull the trigger on the small old brown copper coin.

I’d gone on eBay after that, looking for old / ancient coins from that part of the world to see if I might track something down that she might like at a reasonable price.

I did end up finding a seller offering several silver Pierre coins from Italy / Messina, made during the rule of Frederick IV in the 2nd half of the 14th century, in grades of AU / AU details that they were offering for about $250. When I added them to my watch list they offered them to me for $200, which seemed pretty solid to me, so I showed them to Shandy. She liked them, but she wasn’t quite into them enough to pull the trigger on one for $200.

However, I knew the seller also had on of these in XF45 that they were listing for $175, and I know shandy likes the circulated look a little more anyway, especially on older coins, so I added that to my watchlist and waited.

The seller didn’t disappoint – they sent me an offer for $140 + $4.50 shipping. I showed that to Shandy and she liked it. So I picked that up for her. I think she’s been a fan of it.

I think it's the oldest thing I've bought by a wide margin.
