Thank-you Perth Mint....no Really, Thank-you!

Even A Blind Squirrel sometimes finds a nut..... I faithfully purchased the 2014 4 coin lunar typeset and sent it in for grading, with the unc colorized specimen coming back a "70." The other 3 were "69s. In years past, the colorized version(unc) rolled out on the heels of the typeset but this year, it did not and as a result, there are 5 MS70 Early Releases S1$ Colorized Year of the Horse Specimens indicated in the census. Noteworthy to this years release of their Lunar series, I sent in a pr

IS IT JUST ME? OR Does the "Little Guy" get less here.

The Law of Averages, The Census and the "Little Guy" I have been submitting coins to NGC since 2008 and pretty much backed away in 2011, into 2012, as far as the quantity and frequency of coins I send their way. This mainly due to the fact I never seem to be in the running for top grade coins, regardless of what I submit. I just got back an ER 4 coin Lunar typeset and of course, there's a token "70." for my troubles, but what always seems to surface is that all my "69's" are orphans or close t

RE; Census Updates

I Believe Its Based On The Numbers of Coins Being Sent In To Grade. Not So Much By Who Is Sending Them In. I agree that there are certain issues that have shown distinct delays in our being able to identify their market value prior to their being released to the masses, for the best profit margin attainable. If I know up front that a coin is getting graded about 6 to 1 PF70 v. Pf69, that coin automatically loses its appeal to me with regards to how much I'm going to pay for it, PF70 or not. I

2012p 5oz PROOF DRAGON

This is sort of interesting...!! The Big Mystery Is Out.. So, I awaited the 5 Jun release date...ready to grab one, just to find that I couldn't. No USA Sales, 'cause we act like greedy little orphans and the Australians are complaining that we're siphoning off all their good stuff into our collections. They left a number to call.. I did.. No Joy there either.. Its gonna be mid July til the company had them available. So, like a good collector, I snagged one on the Bay from a really decent G

Just A Quick Thanks..(RE 5OZ Proof Dragon)

GlAD I BROUGHT IT UP..... Funny how just by illuminating something, out of nowhere, there's someone with additional facts and details to help broaden the perspective.. Now, there's what I knew, coupled with what I didn't...Hope that there's others out there who benefited from the posting... as a collector, the first thing that passed my mind was that with so many of the 2500 allocation graded PF70....the dollar premium on owning one (PF70) will be quickly given less enthusiasm. Might even tak

Don't Drive Yourself Nuts!!

You can't use E Bay as an accurate barometer for the FMV of a coin.. After 10 years of using EBay as both buyer and seller, there are a few tidbits of insight that have registered with me on how to utilize the forum to my benefit. First, most Ebayers who use it to buy coins are not anything but monkey-see-monkey do collectors with no understanding. they just know that the particular coin is getting stupid money, so it must be worth owning. The smart sellers capitalizing on this mob mentalit

On The Matter Of Mistakes/Apologies..............

I was Offered An Apology The Other Day......Honest. I couldn't Believe It... I've had to return a coin or two that had been labeled incorrectly, over the last 4 years.. wrong year, etc; but the last batch I got back from grading was something worth discussion. World Moderns are now being afforded "Special" Services, meaning Early Releases and special labels are available. I sent in 5 2012 Proof Silver Niue Dragons from the New Zealand Mint, requesting Early Releases, whcich prompted a call bac

"FIRST RELEASES"

Did You Get The Same E Mail I Did? On 24 December I sent in a PF70 Dragon for a Designation Review, requesting Early Releases, as it is eligible and on the 29th, received the notification that as of 1 Jan, we could also request that the Early Releases submissions be designated "First Releases." The coin I sent in was received 5 Jan and I called to see if I could make the switch..Not Even Close. Once the coin is in house, no changes can be made.. Okay, C'est Live.. But wait.. the 5 Niue Gilde
