To Conserve or Not to Conserve...

1899 P Morgan AU Details - Stained Below are pics of the coin in question. Should I crack it out and send to NCS for removal of the stain and then have it regraded by NGC. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

Don't Leave Home Without It Follow Up...

Got the 1899 P Morgan back from grading. The 1899 P Morgan Dollar that I picked up in a shop while on vacation is on it's way back to me. Coming back AU Details - Stained. Certification is 2583999-004 and the pics are up on NGC. I will take it since I got such a good deal on the coin. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. Don't Leave Home Without It

A find in a shop while on vacation Looking through a box in a shop while on vacation I found a hidden treasure. A 1899-P Morgan dollar toned in at least AU. See pic below. Going to send it in for certification and will have less than $50 in the coin counting certification fees. One happy collector here unless it gets details graded. Will post the grade when I get it back. Glad I packed my collecting habit in my suitcase.

The Thrill of 70 or the Agony of Declean.

Cleaned coins I recently sent in 4 coins all Washington Quarters (1932D, 1932S, 1932S, and 1936D). I suspected one coin of being cleaned but not all of them. All came back details graded. 3 XF details and 1 AU Details with 3 Improperly Cleaned and 1 OBV Scratch. Guess I need to learn how to spot a cleaned coin before I buy them and send them off to be graded. Any tips on spotting cleaned coins? I have a 30X21 loupe as well as a Dinolite Microscope and am waiting to get these back so I can
