Wow.... What a Difference.

After the PCGS coins were removed from the Registry it caused a lot of rank changes. My Half-Mark set suffered several thousand points but I'm finding it really hard to build a set without the PCGS additions. Some of the people really dropped off as if their entire sets were PCGS filled. Of course I'm sure some were removed on purpose. I miss those PCGS half-marks but I do still OWN them. Given that the PCGS coins are out of the game for now here at NGC I've opted to pursue a couple of other

First Submissions to NGC on their way back.

Results of my first NGC Submission. About a month ago I sent in 5 coins and my coupon for free submissions. Not being an expert grader I really didn't know what to expect. It took about a month to figure out which 5 were going. I perused the message boards to see what some of the "Details" grades looked like to avoid getting any of those. Of the 5 coins I sent in, only two were "clean" without a Details note. That was a little disappointing but I'll use it to learn from. Of the three two

Nice Package in the mail yesterday

320 Loose German Coins! I had a nice little package waiting on my when I got home yesterday. In order to expand the collection significantly I thought I would pick up a coin lot instead of just single coins. I knew they wouldn't all be gems and that some would be really bad. I purchased a lot of 320 German coins from the Empire through the Third Reich. All are small denomination coins with no silver in them (so far). The coins range from garbage (bent, corroded, etc) to worn out (no dates or

German Collection

So Many varieties... I've been filling in some of the gaps on my Half Mark collection while trying to expand into the other areas of German Coins. I knew it was a big field to work in due to the number of mintages and the long history but I really had no idea how big, or expensive. I recently picked up the Standard Catalog of German Coins 1501-Present. It is at least as big as the standard catalog of World Coins from 1901-2000. What an incredible variety of coins to peruse. Some of the m

First Journal!

My first decent grade "unique" (to me) addition! I'm relatively new to NGC and am impressed with the site. There is a LOT of content and the people here seem really helpful. Unfortunately that's caused me to go hog-wild buying coins. My current focus is on German Coins throughout the history. I know there are a ton of coins from the various states, the Empire, and modern era. While some of the coins appear a little drab, most have intricate designs filled with coats of arms, historical peopl
