Looking for error

Have Not Seen One Yet My Thomas Jefferson Dollar (PF) with the extra wisp of hair that we have may be a one of a kind. My extensive research from everywhere I can think of has not turned up one other example of error like we have. According to the Redbook, it could be classified as a #4 error (defective die), or a #7 error (lamination flaw). I am still using my 2008 edition of the Red Book, so unless they have listed one in there, another one has not been discovered, or just have not surfaced

My Presidential Beauty

An Error Coin I haven't seen before I have a Thomas Jefferson Proof Dollar with an extra wisp of hair on his left side, if you are facing the coin. It appears to be an extra hair-like scrap of metal that protrudes from the area where his left ear is, and curls around to form an almost perfect one-half of a figure '8' lying sideways. I will try to post a pic, but have not figured out how to edit the ones I have yet, hence the detailed description. The dollar is still encased in the complete pro

Pennies

Copper I just realized I had a message from someone in here about my Lincoln pennies post a week or so ago. Don't get me wrong, I am not letting ANY collectible Lincolns go to the smelter. I have about 70 on-going collections of them, and plan to expand to as many as needed to use up my good Lincolns. I am pretty lenient on condition. They must be readable, and they must not have any foreign material or stains on them. THOSE pennies will go to the smelter. But even the ones that have been impr

Slabbed coins

My collection Just thought I would brag on my collection. We have a 1946 Mint set, a 1947 Mint set, a complete set of Merc Dimes, and two almost complete. We have at least one proof set from every year starting with 1960, and going to present day. We have 20 2001 Silver Proof sets, and about 100 or so duplicates of the years from 1999 to present day, Silver & Clad. No prestige sets, as we plan to slab every proof coin we have, and each set we get from then on and prestige sets are the same

Whether or not to buy gold

Hmm I sell gold when the spot is above $1200.00 . I buy it if it is lower than $1000.00 . That works for now, but will have to be modified as price drops or falls below those levels. Silver is a good investment as bullion when spot is less than $16.00. I sell silver at $18.00. As for copper, people tend to overlook that it is about $3.40 lb. I believe copper will go to $5.00 or more by next Xmas. There are about 145 copper pennies in a lb. So copper should be $1.45 lb, right? Watch in the nex

New to NGC

Start The New Year Out Right I was a member a couple years ago, and only have the free membership right now. I plan to register my slabbed NGC coins when I get the chance. Look for my coins to make it into the registry sometime in Feb.

Copper

The New Silver? With copper wavering between $3.13 & $3.20 per lb, it does not take a rocket scientist to see that since it only takes 145 copper pennies to make a pound, that there may be some profit to be made in the future. FYI, if you save pennies for copper speculation, save everything 1981 & older. You can save 1982 also, but there were copper coins AND zinc coins minted that year. There are actually 7 different varieties in 1982, with copper or zinc large and small dates. So unl
