CONDER PROOF TOKEN

MY FIRST CONDER PROOF Well it arrived today in the mail from a dealer in high end coins that I had never purchased from before. While looking on line for Conder Tokens I ran across this Proof 64 white metal. While I normally collect MS Conder Tokens in copper, this Proof white metal piece was just too nice to say no to...See for yourself. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. COLLECTING VARITIES

Has anyone at NGS even hear of varities? I compalained to NGC about the fact that they do not make room (slots) for major varities in competative sets. To be specific I asked for an additional slot for a 1902 silver 5 kopek, Bitkin #178 Small Crown or a #179 Large Crown and got the stunning reply from Mr. Garcia that they don't recognize the difference and I should just enter the one with the highest grade. I guess I should just throw the other one away since it doesn't mean anything to NGC

THE PROS AT PCGS CAME THROUGH!

If they can't figure it out at NGC.. From my previous posting on this Russian Imperial 1916 5 Kopek you know that NGC returned it with every excuse you have never heard of with what amounted to a no grade cause we just don't know, but Thank You for paying for us to look at it. PCGS has graders that could tell the difference and returned this coin as GENUINE - RIMS FILED. This is a hard to find, expensive, rare coin, and I thought I was sending it to the best, most experienced graders when I s

NOT GENUINE I UNDERSTAND...

HAVE YOU EVER GOTTEN THIS BACK AS A GRADE? I am looking at the "Grades" on line for two 1916 5 kopek coins with the following grades: invoice number 2759098   "QUESTIONABLE AUTHENTICITY" & "AUTHENTICITY UNVERIFIABLE" from those "Expert" graders at NGC. What am I suppose to do with these remarks? They are not grades, they are not "Not Genuine", what do I say to the company that sold them to me? NGC says they can't tell if the coins are real or not, fake or not, gunine or not and I h

THE OTHER SIDE OF THE COIN

Not Genuine? Her is the other side of the coin from my previous post. It was sold as an xf - au. THIS COIN CAME BACK FROM PCGS AS GENUINE - FILED RIMS, SO AT LEAST THEY CAN TELL A GENUINE COIN OR NOT.

Signature Sets & Sanity

Finially somewhere where creative thinking counts! I have been reading all the complaints about dealers and deep pockets on the competive side of the isle, and I want to tell you, I too have competative sets, but the most fun I get out of this society is that it gives me a chance to show off important events in history through coins. I am puting together this year, a set of the last coins minted by the Russian Imperial Mints from 1916 - 1917. The Russian revolution affected the destiny of ma

It Pays To Crossover

How I made $500 I just got the grade for an 1939 Jefferson Proof Reverse of 38 from NGC. I had sent in a very toned ANAC graded 1939 Jefferson Proof Rev of 38 graded at Proof 64 by ANAC. After cleaning by NCG they sent it to NGC for grading and they gave it a Proof 67! It went from being worth $150 (I only paid $90 because of the ANAC slab) to a $650 coin. I cannot wait to see it in hand. This is the best crossover I have yet to experience.

Enviormental Damage on an encapsulated coin?

What is going on here? In my last post I let everyone knnow that I purchased a toned Jefferson nickel, a 1939 Rev of 40 in a ANACS Holder PR64. Sent it in to PCGS for a crossover and I get it back in a body bag marked "ENVIORMENTAL DAMAGE". To say I was in shocked was an understatement. How could ANACS miss that? When and how did it happen? I have sent it to NCG for a clean up and off to NGC for a new encapsulation. I'll let you know.

Closer to finishing the Jefferson Proofs

Hard to do when nobody is selling... Well, it's been a busy week, coin wise. I purchased a toned PF64 1939 5C Rev. of 1938 in an ANACS small holder. It will be the lowest graded coin in the collection at Proof 64, and the only toned coin I own, but it was so hard to find! It is the first coin I ever purchased in an ANACS holder. I cannot decide to crack it out or do a straight crossover. I am going to send it into NGC for the cross over. I have only two more Jeffersons to find, 1940 Rev.

Filling in those sets...

3 more Jefferson proofs and 2 Mercury proofs to go... I have been hunting down coins for my proof sets of Jefferson's and Mercury's. I just added three to the Jefferson proofs and finially found a 1968-s PR69DCAM on E-bay. I have been hunting for that coin, since forever! There are only 153 of them and today there were two for sale after months of nothing, anywhere, when it rains it pours I guess. I have only three more Jefferson's to find, 1940 rev of 38, 1939 rev of 38 and 1939 rev of 40

ANCIENT COIN GRADES

I GOT A STAR! I just looked at the finalized grades on four ancient coins I sent into NGC for grading. I got a MS60* on one! A star on an ancient coin was unexpected to say the least. Can't wait to see the tag on the slab. I have been seeking the very best examples I can afford, but never expected a star. I guess I am getting better at grading ancient coins. I got two XF45's and one XF40 on the others in this submission. I have what is a Fluir de Coin, at least, to send in next along wit

MY FIRST JOURNAL ENTRY

Please be gentle, it's my first time... I suppose I should introduce myself. I started out as the reluctant collector by way of my father. He died a couple of years ago and left me a number of coins. He had tried for years to get me or my brother interested in coin collecting with little luck. My brother is a minister who does not have the resources to collect, but has always been interested in coin collecting. I on the other hand had the resources but not the desire to collect. My fathe
