My UHR Story (continued)

The book finally arrived! The U. S. Mint book that was part of the UHR coin set was delivered yesterday by UPS (with a signature required). I am impressed by the quality of the book and the interesting story of how this coin was produced. All in all, well worth the wait.

My UHR Story

Here is my story... I have been reading in these journals about other people's opinions and experiences with the new Ultra High Relief Gold $20, and wanted to add my story. I knew that I wanted one of these once I first saw the promotional photos. I knew that the US Mint order process would be paralyzed the first day, so I wanted until the next day. I entered my order on-line on January 23 quickly and without any problems. Within a day I received an email saying that the ship day would b

Coin Photography

...is harder than it looks. I recently got this 2003 Lincoln cent to add to my 21st Century type set. It gave me a chance to practice with my camera to try to capture a good image of the coin. After many attempts, I am finding that it is harder than it looks. Proof coins or others with mirror-like finishes are tough and shooting through scratched plastic does not make it easier. Around half of the time I need to retake the picture, so not only do I need to upgrade my collection, but now

The final coin...

72nd coin to Jefferson Proof Set The final coin was just added to my Jefferson Proof Set, the elusive 1939 Rev40. It is graded proof 67, and only 136 of this type have been graded by NGC and PCGS, and only one higher at PF67 Cameo. This is the 72nd coin in the set, but oh well, in a few months I will need to be looking for the 2008 proof and 73rd coin.

71 Down, 1 More To Go

Only one more to complete set... With this addition, I only need one more coin to complete my set of Proof Jefferson Nickels. This coin is a 1940 Rev 1938 PF66* (the only NGC 66* coin) and there are only eight with a higher grade. It may be awhile due to the high cost of the last coin, but what do I do when I complete the set?

Another upgrade...

Another upgrade to my Jefferson Proof set... I was able to add another upgrade to my Jefferson Proof Set with this acquistion of a 1952 5C PF69 Cameo. I have been working at this set for a short time (is two years short?), and the upgrade opportunities seem to becoming more scarce. I am realizing that this is a long journey and, so far, I am enjoying the trip.

One small step forward, four steps back

I add another Full Step to my set, but lose ground. I added another Full Step Jefferson to my circulation strike set yesterday, and this got me to 50% completed. It is a nice 1994P MS66 6FS. I was happy with this milestone and only had another 80 coins to go. But today I look and find that they added the four 2007 coins to the list and now I drop back to 48%!

Another upgrade...

Another upgrade to my type sets from local show. Last weekend was the Santa Clara show, and I found a lustrous 1910 Liberty nickel (raw) at a great price, and a Peace dollar (slabbed) at a not so great price to upgrade my type sets.

Another upgrade...

My first journal entry... I just purchased a 1909 5C NGC PF66 Cameo to put into my Nickel set, and it replace a 1911 NGC PF64, though I still have a ways to go to get into ninth place.
