Why would you ruin a 1907 High Relief St. Gaudens if you knew what it was?

Someone put it in a claspe... A guy was at a coin show looking at coins when someone (a guy looking on the floor like him) offered him a 1907 High Relief St. Gaudens. But it was in a claspe and cleaned. The claspe made huge marks on the coin when the coin was removed from the claspe. The guy said he knew it was worth a lot of money but he wanted to make it look a little bit nicer so he cleaned it. Of course, my dad passed. People sometimes baffle me because of the stupid things they do. The gu

Re: Follow up on the 1907 High Relief St. Gaudens

Guy sold it but for... The guy saw the guy that he offered it to again and the guy asked how he did on selling the High Relief with all its problems. The guy said he sold it for melt. Another unwise move. The guy could have sold it to someone that doesn't have the means to go buy a good one and dramatically lower the price. Part of me feels bad for him because he probably needed the money and blew a shot at some money even if the coin was ruined I feel bad for the guy but maybe he should have

What a Joke! This is Crazy!

First Strike examples are pathetic... and so is modern coinage. I recently talked to a guy who bought a MS 67 Handshake Medal for 10 cents. He put the coin on Ebay and got about a $120 after all the fees. People are going crazy over this high grade common stuff. He also said that he talked to another guy that bought an American Eagle in a First Strike holder and the guy paid $180 for it. When the guy asked the man I talked to how much would he pay for it, he said $14.The guy that had the coin

Eating Away the Profits

Dealers have a hard life... Dealers have to always be at coin shows and are there the whole day. So they need food and drinks. Well if they pay for it there they are paying a lot of money and they have to pay table fees. If they go to bigger shows that are multiple days they have to pay for airfare and hotel. People think that dealers are crazy when they have to make alot of money on one coin but they have to pay a lot of money for everything and they need to make a living to.

Coins

They are fun. Coins are fun to collect and look at. Keep it that way and pass your wisedom on to kids so this wonderful hobby can keep going. You can even make donations to certain places. I know that when I grow older I will share my knowledge with the young kids to get them interested in coins. If there isn't a next generation behind you then the hobby will just die off and the hobby you used to love won't be there anymore. Teah the next generation so they can do the same.

I owe it all to you...

Thanks, your the best. I know it all to you dad. I know we don't agree all the time and sometimes argue but your the best. If it wasn't for you I wouldn't be where I was now. You introduced me to coins. I remember the first coin show we went together and I had to keep asking you for help and things that the collector starting out needs help with. You do everything you can for me and I appreciate that. I hope you happy and proud of me. Happy Father's Day,dad!

True Collectors

They never stop! True hard core collectores never stop collecting. They might slow down for a while in the spring and summer because material is hard to find and there is always nice weather. But, they are always looking for new pieces to add to their collection. Then there are just collectors that look during the winter which is fine, they like coins but aren't as enthusiastic like the people who look all the time. I know I am a enthusiastic collector that never stops looking and can't get e

Breaking News in the Wisconsin Extra Leaf Quarter!

If you got the recent Coin World they think they found what caused the extra leaf, OR DID THEY? If you got the recent Coin World they think they found what caused the extra leaf. The think by accident the obverse was punched on the reverse and the extra leaf is Wahington's hair. But they said it was punched on before the reverse design was already on the coin. The extra leaf looks like it was punched oo and the extra leaf looks weird and doesn't look like it could have gotten on the coin the w

The Presidental Dollars are Starting to get pathetic....

Plain Edge, Ridiculous. They also found a new error on the Adams Dollar, could this one actually be worth something? The Presidental Dollars are starting to get out of control. People are paying extra money because the coins don't have letting on the the edges of the rim(PLain Edge). This just another one of those trends where the coins get to out of control and there are so many out there that people won't care about them anymore and they won't be worth any money. They found a few problems wi

Todays Market

Why won't anybody pay for nice coins? In order to buy nice premium coins you see and say I wish I had that coin you have to pay a lot over greysheet for them sometimes. AS lot of people don't understand this. If you truley like the coin your not going to sell it right away, your going to keep it for a while. I bought a 1834(PCGS AU58) Bust Quarter this falland paid $1000 a little over sheet at the time. Two weeks later the guy who sold it to me asked if I would sell the coin back to him for $1

Collecting not fun for richer people?

Boring getting whatever you please? People always want to be rich but what is the point of being rich when most of the rich aren't happy. They always have to compete with each other and never be happy that they're rich. Things can't be fun when you get everything you want after a while. For most people up to a little better than average coin collecting is fun because you have to save and then when you finally reach your goal after all that time it is satisfying, I know it is for me. When your

Do we really need other grading services......

PCGS and NGC that is it! Or not....... When you go buy a slabbed coin you always want it to be in NGC or PCGS holder. What people don't under is that if we only had two grading services then they would become backed up and over whelmed with coins, not that the process takes long enough because they want to give the coin the ride grade which is fine. But imagine how long it would take to to get your coins back. People always want only the top two, but what about the people that can't afford the
