A threat to submit more coins???????????

If I could only decide. If I only had more money. If I only had more time. If I were only better looking. I could go on but I won'tAfter many aborted attempts to come up with five coins that I wanted to submit I think I have the ones!! I was going to go though my Presidential rolls (that remain unopened) and pick out the best ones to submit but decided to buy graded ones instead. Then I had my eye on the Presidential Proofs and backed out of that one too. Next on my hit list was the Preside

Presidential coins: satin finish from mint sets are getting higher grades. I can't say what this means to the Presidential dollars in our collections but there are a lot of MS67's and even some MS68's both NGC and PCGS showing up for sale as the first round of graded coins from the 2007 mint sets hit the market. When I first got my Mint Set I thought the Presidential dollars look pretty good, I even ordered a second one thinking that I might break one up to have the dollar coins graded. I use

Peace Of Luck

An AU 1924S is now mine. My quest to finish my Peace Dollar collection by years end, got a little easier with the acquisition of a 1924S in AU55.I was trying for a AU58 but lost out by a dollar. When I came across this AU55 and won it for less than half the final price of the AU58. While all of that was going on I also had my eye on a 1924D in MS63, I thought if I had lost out on the second 1924S,I would switch and try for the 1924D. As luck would have it I got the 1924S and the 1924D sold for

American Silver Eagle Are the best of the Modern Coins

A couple of tips you might want to check out. Unlike the regular issue you are able to buy the W minted Silver Eagles right from the mint. I was lucky enough to order a subscription for 5 coins a year from the mint just in time to get the 2006W's like I do with Proof sets and Mint sets and the PR Eagles. The 5 Silver Eagles cost around $109 total for the 5. I sent the 5 2006W in for grading and got back 2 MS70 the others were MS69 I sold 2 of the MS69 and my 2 70's and the 69 were pretty much

Here's My two Cents

I think the rule should be changed lets make it 100% have a category for only complete sets. My goal in Collecting coins has always been to complete the set! I don't always succeed, and I have many works in progress but I keep trying. For many years I thought that the majority of collectors of NGC and or PCGS coins acted and thought like the one who started all this commotion. I joined the Collectors Society so I could submit coins for grading and nothing more. I didn't own one slabbed coin. O

Re:, Re:Graded coins

I learned it the hard way Unless some one is getting a large volume discount on grading of coins, selling common dates at grades of 60-64 is always a losing proposition. What other way is there to get higher graded coins than to buy roll after roll of raw coins to look through. Trusting your grading skills to pick the best ones and hoping they come back what you want. As the expenses mount up ask your self if I were to buy this coin in MS?? what would it cost, chances are less than what you h

THE SEARCH GOES ON ( : Smile : )

Presidents and Peace are on my mind again, no, still!!!!! While searching for a pair of John Adams P&D in MS66. I ran in to a gentleman who is a member of the PCGS collectors org. although he doesn't participate in the registry, he has large numbers of coins graded. Like 400 Presidential proof sets and goes through dollars by the thousand dollar box. He told me that out of the 400 proof sets none graded higher than PR69ucam. He was very disappointed to say the least. He also lamented the f

Best Presidents I've Seen

The 2007 mint set arrived today. The Mailman brought my 2007 mint set today a total of 28 coins. I have been looking for some coins to make up a modern tier submission I needed four more coins to go with my 2007W $5 gold eagle and I think I found them, after looking at the presidential dollars in the mint set. I have Washington's and Jefferson's in MS66 and need the Adams P&D, but don't want to pay the price. The mint set presidents look better than my MS 66's. Later JimL4004

Quest For Peace In My Time

One more down and Seven more to go I picked up a very nice MS63 1935P Peace dollar that I added to my collection. I wish I knew more about coin grading. I swear that looks better than most of the MS64's that I have. I guess we have all said that from time to time. This is only my opinion, any one who quotes the PCGS price guide and is not selling PCGS graded coins, is trying to convince you that the $50 coin that they are selling for $70 is in fact worth $90. All the swindlers use the PCGS g

And then there were Eight

I got lucky I picked up a MS63 1926S Peace Dollar in an auction today. I was happy and suprised that I got it for what I did. I geuss there was not much intrest in it, lucky for me. I have been a coin collector for a long time, but up until this year I only collected raw coins. I have almost complete sets of Lincoln cents 1909-2007 minus 1909S VDB, 1914D and 1955 double die,Indian head pennys except for 1877, you get the picture any way I have all the Kennedy halves including proofs and from 2

Peace In My Time.

Only 3 months left With a new month starting in two days and nine Peace Dollars left till I hit 100% I will have to average three a month to finish on time. I just finished out this month with a MS64 1926P. I am trying to develop a plan for acquiring the rest. The 1924S will be the hardest one to get or should I say afford, with a nice AU being what I will be looking for, with an up grade to MS some time in the future. I think I can swing at least an MS60 to 64 on everything else. At present I

Peace and Prosperity

A successful week comes to an end   I also agree with Revenant about the sale of coins in the JournalThis weekend I added a MS63 1923S to my Peace Dollar Collection. At least for now The Peace Dollar is my favorite as if no one new that I like Morgan's also and have a nice raw set made up of unc, and some circulated coins totaling 63 coins. the best ones more than likely would grade out in the low 60's. I don't have a chance at getting a complete collection of them. Peace dollars on the other h

Coin Collecting as an Investment

I am probably not going to make any friends on this one. Recently I have read a number of journal entries refering to coin collecting as a way of investing. In my humble opinion there are any number of ways to invest money that is sure to make more profit than coins. There are alot of reasons for collecting coins, Beauty, histoical significance and many others investment is at the bottom of the list. Only the rarest coins may rise in price enough to be called investment coins and like everyt

Presidential Dollars Mint State and Proof

Ive been suprised again. When the Presidential Dollars first started to come out I went right to the mint web site and subscribed for a roll of P&D of all of them. I also subscribed to the Proof sets. I now have six rolls of dollars and three proof sets not even opened. I was getting ready to open them up and start selecting the best ones for grading. First I had to checked out the E-bay actions to see if I could sell some of the extra ones that I was sure to have from my submissions and m

I cracked the top 100

ranked 97th of 329 With my latest addition to my Peace Dollar collection, a nice AU 1935 S, I move in to the top 100 Peace Dollar collections in the Registry. I now have 11 more to go to complete the collection. I say complete but is it? Yes it is, but there will be up grades. I love the Peace Dollars. I see them as the underdog compared to the Mighty Morgan. I must have a thing for the underdog, after all I am a Cleveland Browns fan. When I logged on I was suprised to see that there wasn't on

Just got back from vacation.

only from work not coin collecting I was lucky to pick up a real nice MS63 1922S and 1927D in Au for my Peace dollar collection, that should add about 300+ points to my total. Just maybe I will crack the top 100. I also picked up 4 MS69 SAE to add to my Eagles. I sold all of my raw Eagles as I had nothing left that was good enough to send in for grading. I didn't want anymore MS66 Silver American Eagles in my collection that I would just have to up grade to MS69 any way. I also picked up 7lbs

I Got My Grades

Fastest turn around time I've had. I checked on my submission today and found it finalized and shipped, from received on 8-15 to finalized and shipped on 8-23 it seems to me that it was very fast. The 94 veteran's coins, all three came back MS69 as did the 1996 ASE those were the most important ones of the submission, all four were flawless as far as I could see. I have heard that only a grader by trade can tell the differance between a 69 and 70 it must be true because I sure can't. The other

Latest and Greatest Submission (in size)

My ten coins are scheduled for grading. My fourth and largest submission of the year move into scheduled to be graded today. I love the way it's set up so you can follow it through each step, sure beats just waiting for it to get back. I would like to reflect on my previous three for just a minute. The first was bad three AU an MS61 and my prize 1934 Peace Dollar came back in a body bag!! The other four coins were Morgans. Next I sent two 2006W ASE a Jamestown silver dollar and $5 gold piece

Re: First Spouse and Mint

May not be fair but they do it All of the Shopping channels and some dealers have subsciption lists that any one can join. The subscribers buy the coins from the mint and sell them back to the dealers and or shopping channels at 10% above mint cost. I myself have be asked to join on more than one occasion. PEACE TRIUMPHS OVER EVIL

not one, not two, not three but six times I find this hard to believe, if it hadn't happened to me or just when you thought it was safe to buy NGC graded coins on ebay!!! After my purchase of a beautiful MS61 1928P Peace dollar. I was checking out auctions that were closing in hopes of finding some deals that could help me pay for it. When I got an E-mail that more NGC graded coins had been listed and added to my search. Well!! Could I wait till I was finish looking for deals before I checke

Peace On Earth

For tonight at least in my little corner of it. The day or should I say the night that I have been waiting for has arrived. Tonight, not more than two hours ago, I won my 1928P Peace Dollar in an E-bay auction. I was bidding on three of them Two AU58's one NGC the other a PCGS, and an NGC MS61. I was using the AU58's as backups but I wanted the mint state real bad. I was out bid on the MS61 earlier in the day but that was before the bidding got serious. I pick the max I would go up to and wait

Im sending off my fourth and largest submission

Its in the Modern tier so I feel Pretty safe Seven American Silver Eagles and the three 1994 U.S. Veterans Commemorative Silver dollars. I have done well in the modern tier and I hope it will continue. I won't even think of any actual numbers. That would be a sure jinx. I am starting to gather Peace dollars and am going to try a more daring submission. There are a couple of coin shows comming up in my area that I will be checking out. Due to some past experiences I won't be getting any thing t

RE: Open ? for members

As I always say the only real vaule of a coin is how much that someone is willing to pay for it!!!! A little bit about online actions E-bay and to a lesser extent HA.com are very much a buyers market. I often wonder where the sellers are getting the coins that they sell? Common date Morgans Ngc MS64 1879s,1880s,1881s,1882and so on, regularly sell for $30-40 sometimes less. Peace Dollars for less, there are so many of these for sale it can't help but drive the price down. When I look to buy or
