Feel-Good Bank Story

10 posts in this topic

I've been collecting a few months now, and have had some problems with getting mint state rolls from the two banks I have accounts with. They either don't have much mint stuff in stock, or are real busy and act kind of annoyed when I take up their time asking for particular types of roll.

Anyway, last Friday I was leaving a building that houses a satellite office of the company I work for, and I noticed there was actually a small bank office just off of the lobby. I had some cash in my pocket and thought I'd try to get some South Dakota state quarters, since I didn't have any yet.

There were no customers in the bank, just a teller and an account manager sitting behind a desk.

I didn't make it 15 feet inside the door before the account manager hops up from his chair and approaches. He asks what he can do for me, and I say I "just need some change."

"No problem," he says, going back behind the counter. "What do you need?"

"Do you have any new quarters?"

"Of course we do, but all we've got are the South Dakotas. The new ones will be in a few days, though."

This is great, I thought. I bought a roll then pressed my luck. How about some new presidential dollars?

He had 'em, and was happy to sort through and find a good looking roll.

I don't know if the guy's a collector, but he was friendly and knowledgable. I'll probably open an account!

Congrats and a great story! My main accounts are at a bank where the nearest branch is 100 miles away, but they are the type of bank that doesn't deal in coins much, so it wouldn't matter anyway!

Nice to have someone who cares.

You do not get many banks in the uk who get there coins from the mint any more they seem to give the Mint coins to shops or some post offices, you get looked at like you are mad if you ask for mint bags or they think you are after Mint sets in boxes..

i have one nice one in Blaydon which keeps me any £5, Error, fake coins which come in and keep any seeled bags which come from the mint. we are coming to the last "shiny's" of 2006 at the moment and i got these Two 20p coins from them the other day both showing signs of die errors + the fake £1 coin.. over here there are very few people who check change unlike the us..

That's a nice story. Many banks talk the talk, but don't walk the walk. That one is a pleasant exception and one that other banks should follow.

Dooly: Enjoyed your story. I am interested in how things like that go in other countries. Keep the UK stories coming. Thanks. smile.gif
