This is a picture of my 2000S Roosevelt from my Silver proof set. This is taken thru the case, sorry it isn't better. I'm getting this wierd stuff on it. Does anyone know what might be causing this? There is some of this happening to the Quarters in this set also. None of the other silver though.

These are stored in a fireproof safe. I also keep 2 large packets of the slicone packets in with them. They are also in one of those large proof storage boxes. I have numerous other coins in there with them and I was just actually looking at all my proof sets and this was the only set I seen this on.

Old safe or new? The reason I ask is I have a safe that came with a warning about dampness in the interrior and recommended that the door be left open for an amount of time, that I don't recall, to allow it time to dry out. I think I didn't shut the door on that safe for about a month and never had a problem. I hope you don't keep the safe in a basement. It sure looks like mold but I don't think there is anything inside a proof holder for mold to feed on.

It may just be random crud that was on the coin prior to your obtaining it that has now grown. However, fireproof safes can be dangerous to the longterm health of your coins, too, because of their interior contents.

I took the boxes out and set them on a top shelf in my closet. Think this will be okay? What else would you recommend?

"Creep'in Crud" Boy, what ever is going is not good...looks like moisture (in the form of humidity) attacked or is in the process of attacking the surface. What I don't understand is it is not effecting the other silver coins in the same lens. That makes no sense and then you say the Quarters in another lens are being affected.

Question? You get these directly from the Mint? Reason I ask, if they came from a secondary market, you have no way of determening where they've been or what they've been through.

No way to stop what has already occured...to bad.
